TRAI DLT REGULATIONS

TRAI DLT REGULATIONS FOR SENDING BULK SMS

According to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) guidelines under TCCCPR 2018, any business intending to send SMS messages must follow a comprehensive registration process. This process requires businesses to register various details on DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platforms such as those provided by BSNL, Vodafone, Videocon, Jio TrueConnect, or other authorized platforms.

The registration involves several mandatory steps to ensure compliance. Firstly, the business entity itself must be registered on the chosen DLT platform. This involves providing all necessary business details and documentation. Secondly, businesses must register their SMS sender IDs, commonly referred to as headers. These headers are unique identifiers that help recipients recognize the sender of the SMS.

Additionally, businesses are required to register their content templates. These templates include the actual message content that will be sent to customers. Each template needs to be approved to ensure that it adheres to regulatory standards and prevents unsolicited and fraudulent messages.

Furthermore, consent templates must also be registered. These templates outline how and when customer consent is obtained for receiving SMS messages. Ensuring that consent is properly documented and registered is crucial for regulatory compliance and customer trust.

It is important to complete all these steps of the DLT registration process thoroughly. Without full completion and approval of the registration on the DLT platform, businesses will not be authorized to send SMS messages. This ensures a streamlined and transparent process for both businesses and customers, aligning with TRAI’s efforts to regulate and manage commercial communication effectively.
